Well at least we've made progress toward identifying the problem. What's in
the authorized_keys file, as well as the id_ed25519.pub file? These are
safe to share. The id_ed25519 (with no extension) is the private key and
should not be shared anywhere.

I don't know. Hopefully Paul or someone with more of a clue than me will
