[Dirvish] replicate a vault with hardlinks

Hi all,

I'm shifting a directory (containing my mail store) from one server to
another.

I'd like to keep all my history together, though.

Does it make sense, and would it work, to "cp -al" the entire tree of my
existing mailserver to the new one, before doing the first backup of the
new one? Hopefully that will result in not doubling the space
requirements, while keeping all the history - including any diverged
history from this point on (due for example to misconfiguration of my
mail server, filing my mail in the wrong place)

Any tips appreciated.
