Nothing that screams disaster to me (famous last words :)

A couple of thoughts:

(1) You only have the current backup onsite most of the time and only on
a single disk.

I'd be tempted to either mirror the backup to offsite every night or use
a RAID1 (or better) or both.

(2) The SQL database sounds like a lot of effort. How often do you need
to recover individual files?

I'd probably be tempted to just store the index files and use grep to
find files when necessary.

PS Sounds like you might have something equivalent to the GEORGE 3 [1]
filestore when you're done, although it used tapes for the backups.
