I'd like to try it but it takes too long to rebuild the 5 T array since
the drives are 1T each.  I have done it a few times before but mostly
unplugging drives to fail the array for testing.  the rebuilding was
always done later I think.  I don't know if I rebooted or not. . .

Quick google search turns up sparse information.  mostly saying hot swap
SATA under linux will require libata and may not work well yet.
